Censoring the Cinema film series closes with screening of 'The Front' |
|
|
The film series, "Censoring the Cinema: The Blacklisted Actors, Writers and Directors" with Dr. Craig Smith, has examined the historical context for the infamous blacklisting of many Hollywood artists resulting from the anti-communist fervor of the 1940s and 50s. During the semester five films involving prominent blacklisted artists were screened at the Art Theatre in downtown Long Beach for FREE!
On Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at 7:00pm, Dr. Smith will present the final film for the semester, Woody Allen's The Front (1976), which satirizes the Hollywood blacklisting and the use of "fronts" (people who posed as the actual writers) for blacklisted writers.
Dr. Craig R. Smith is the Director of the Center for First Amendment Studies, and the author of sixteen books, and over sixty scholarly articles and book chapters, many of them focusing on freedom of expression.
PLEASE NOTE: Part 2 of this course will be offered in Spring 2012! "Censoring the Cinema: Sex, Obscenity, Indecency and Immoral Behavior"
Art Theatre 2025 East 4th Street Long Beach, CA 90804 562-438-5435
Lectures by Dr. Craig R. Smith start promptly at 7pm, followed by the film screening.
